The B.A. in Spanish provides opportunities for language-based global engagement. Students gain linguistic and intercultural competencies applicable to many fields.

A minor in Spanish promotes proficiency in the Spanish language as well as an appreciation and understanding of Spanish literature and culture.

LLC offers a pre-bacc certificate designed for second language learners and heritage students pursuing a career in the health care professions to provide vocabulary and communicative skills in Spanish needed for cross-cultural communication with Hispanic and Latinx communities. Interested in taking SPA 303: Spanish for Health Care I? 12-credit certificate designed to prepare students for Spanish proficiency that will allow them to engage in all types of entry-level professional associations and settings where skills in Spanish are desirable or required.

12-credit certificate for advanced second language learners and Spanish heritage learners who seek to enhance their proficiency in Spanish in preparation for professional interactions and settings where a strong proficiency in the language and intercultural competence is desirable or required.

Students seeking initial licensure to teach in North Carolina must work closely with the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and the School of Education, since both agencies certify competence and recommend the student to the State. Please note that it is the student’s responsibility to initiate all procedures and to complete all requirements at the proper time.

LLC offers a Spanish Heritage Language Program with specially-designed courses for students who have learned Spanish at home or in a Spanish-speaking community.
