Humanities at Work
The UNCG Humanities at Work (H@W) program provides exceptional paid internships to undergraduate humanities majors. Students in the program work in small teams with local community partners to learn how to leverage their valuable humanities degree beyond the classroom.
Students interested in the Humanities at Work (H@W) program should email the program team at haw@uncg.edu to gain access to the application portal on Canvas. This portal will provide essential information about the program and guide students through the next steps if they decide to apply. The application deadline for the inaugural class (Spring ’25) is October 28, 2024. Decisions will be announced on November 4, 2024.
The inaugural class has 15 spots available for a one-semester pilot experience. To complete the application, students should be ready to provide contact information for several professional or academic references. Please note that applicants should not request letters of recommendation.
Applicants should be able to plan a spring schedule around the H@W course times: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-1:45 pm and Fridays from 2:00-3:15 pm. Additionally, there is a requirement of 5 hours of on-site time each week. Between the course and the time students will spend at their internship, students should plan for a total time commitment of approximately 12-15 hours per week.
Once applications are received, the H@W team will select prospective interns and create a waitlist. Invited students will receive details about community partners’ on-site scheduling expectations and can confirm their availability, making any necessary adjustments to their spring schedules. Waitlisted students may be invited to join if any selected students cannot meet the scheduling needs.
Students who are not selected or who are not yet ready to apply will be encouraged to consider reapplying in the spring. At that point, H@W will begin recruiting for the Year 2 class of interns, which will be a full-year experience offering 9 credit hours and a $5,000 stipend.
