German Studies Major (GER)

Degree: Bachelor of Arts in Languages, Literatures, and Cultures: German Studies Concentration
Required: 122 semester hours, to include at least 27 hours at or above the 300 course level.

The German Studies Major, depending on the student’s interest and other abilities, may lead into various careers such as teaching, government service and international trade. The specialized study of German aims to improve language skills and to convey an understanding of German culture, through the study of literature, film, and works of German thought.

German as a Second Major

Required: minimum of 27 semester hours above the 204 level. The requirements for a second major in German are the same as for the German Major.

Major Requirements

Minimum of 27 semester hours in German above the 204 level, including at least: (1) Four courses involving literature or culture, (2) Five additional courses above the 204 level. German Studies Majors must also complete one core Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LLC) course and complete one high-impact intercultural experience (e.g. study abroad, LLC service-learning course, residence in Global Village, certificate of completion of Global Leadership Program, or Disciplinary Honors).
