Personal Statement

Autumn Bondurant (River) was born in West Virginia but has spent the majority of her life in Eastern North Carolina. Although her last name may be French, she began studying Spanish at the age of 14 as a freshman in high school. Quickly, she grew a love for the language and culture. She continued to grow her love for Spanish in college and became immersed in many opportunities such as a position as a Master Certified tutor, a member of Sigma Delta Pi, and two study abroad programs. After graduating with her bachelor degrees, she became interested in teaching Spanish, and pursued her M.A. at UNCW. She has taught at a variety of introductory courses at different higher education institutions, including two and four year schools. Her academic/research interests are hispanic linguistics, specifically phonetics and dialectology.

River has visited four Spanish-speaking countries (México, Perú, Honduras, República Dominicana) and has the goal of visiting all 21 in her lifetime. Her passion is learning something new about the Spanish language and culture everyday. She is proud to be an educator and to share the passion that she has for the Spanish language and culture with a new generation.
